I made my way down, underwater camera in hand. The water seemed to spiral through a range of blue tones, different at each depth. I swam leisurely beside schools of gorgonian, sea fan and tunicate, past thick yet pristine coral. To my right, a manta ray sailed effortlessly past; the reef shark in the distance ignored us all. Finally, I hit 90 feet when it all changed. There was the abyss - the Blue Hole.

Expedition Log: Day 2

At nearly 100 feet down, we reach what appears to be a vertical hole deep in the ocean. My guide signals to follow him. We carefully swim deeper, and I peer into the hole of darkness, making out some kind of an indentation or a ledge on the inside of a cave. 110 feet down. We're a little closer now, and I sense that my heart is beating fast. As I approach this underwater cavern, I see stalactites pointing into the depths below, to no man's land. I begin to investigate, but my guide taps me, shakes his head, and we begin making our way up to the surface.
