I don't know whether the sound of the waves or my racing heartbeat is louder. I look over the edge at the whirling waters of Victoria Falls below, and then leap, free falling in what feels like slow motion. The mist soaks me, but the adrenaline consumes me. Suddenly, the rebound of the bungee cord snaps me upward, my exultant voice drowned out by the roar of the falls.

Expedition Log: Day 1

We make our way with our guide through the rainforest surrounding the falls. I can hear the chatter of vervet monkey and baboons flitting through the trees. Our guide gives the signal to stand still and wait. There's a rustling of leaves and a muffled snort - something's definitely moving not far away. I glance toward the river and see an elephant and her calf drinking at the water's edge. I am exuberant; they are simply thirsty.
